Forensic anthropology

Part 2

“How are you feeling Joanna?” Asked Dr. Smith

“I’m ok. I imagine that could change with what you are going to tell me now.”

“Well in your situation, this could have been a lot worse. The best news is that none of your fractures are compound fractures so after minor re-alignments, I was able to applied this long cast to your leg and start the healing process”

Tammy looked at her friend and notice that she was waiting for the but…

“You have a broken tibia, fibula and knee. What looked like a broken femur was actually your knee dislocation. You will be in a full leg cast without any weight bearing possibility for a minimum of 8 weeks. Then I will re-evaluate the situation”

Joanna smiled and wondered how her life was going to be after all this.

“And… is there more…” Joanna said

“What I’m really concerned about is your ankle. When people fall like you did they usually have the tibia and fibula break at the ankle. In your case for some reasons the bones did not break but you have a complete tear of your ligaments. High ankle sprain like yours will take months to heal. A lot longer than your fractured bones”

Joanna slowly lies back on the bed and close her eyes for a minute.

“So my dear, you will be on crutches for a very long time. My assistant will fit you with crutches and you will be able to leave and go home to finally get some rest”

“Thank you doctor” Joanna said still under shock.

Although she was so sorry for all the pain that Joanna had endure, Tammy could not resist the thought that Joanna was adorable sitting on the bed with her right leg in a black cast resting in some sort of device. The cast was bent at the knee.

“You don’t have to stay Tammy, I ...” Joanna said but was stopped by Tammy quickly.

“I’m here for you, stop that now”

At the same moment a young nurse walked into the room with a pair of crutches.

“Hello Joanna my name is Nicole and I’m here to help you leave this place but first I need to adjust these crutches to your height” She smiled and slowly lowered the broken leg from the device.

“How’s the leg?

“Its fine but it felt better before you put it down” Joanna answered and nervously smiled back at her.

“That’s normal and you feel even worse when you stand up on your left leg. Here lean on me and get up”

“Oh god this is so painful”

“Don’t worry that’s normal. It will get better” the nurse said

“How do I look?” Joanna asked Tammy while standing on her brand new crutches with her right leg protected and inches and inches of black fibber.

“You look amazing like you always do” Tammy said

“Can you take me home?” Joanna asked

“You know better than asking.

Tammy was pushing Joanna who was sitting in the wheelchair and holding on to her crutches back to the car. She kept glancing at her friend broken leg. For Tammy it was also difficult to ignore her feelings for Joanna. Tammy was a lesbian but she knew that Joanna was not. The excitement from after the accident made her want the blonde more than she did before but at the same time she wanted the attraction to be mutual or she would not push the subject.

“Do the police have any more information’s on Marcus murder?” Joanna asked.

The question somewhat surprised Tammy. It was also clear from the way
Joanna didn’t look at her and ask a question totally not related to them that she was uncomfortable with the situation.

“No, nothing yet but they are working the case”

With Tammy’s help Joanna managed to stand up on her left foot and hop into the back seat of the car. Her broken leg was so sore still.

She wanted to concentrate all her energy on the murder other than her broken leg or what happened yesterday. When she thought about how she begged Tammy to please her sexually while on the floor with a broken leg, her she was mortified. She couldn’t believe that so much pain would incite her sexually to get so carried away.

To her relief when she glanced at Tammy she did see the lust that she did when she rubbing her breast. Maybe she would see it as just a fling and would soon forget about it.

Back at her apartment, Joanna was sitting on the couch with her cast propped up by pillows.

The room was so quiet and tense. You could feel the pressure

Tammy stayed in her seat at the table and watched Joanna sitting in the living room. When it was clear no one was going to talk, Tammy stood up and walked towards the living room. She sat on the empty chair across from Joanna and asked,

“Are you okay? Is your broken leg ok?”

“I will be fine, I’m not the first woman to break her leg but I'm tired.” Joanna answered and avoided looking at Tammy.

“I need some sleep, can you get my crutches and help me up please.” Joanna knew she was not the nicest person towards Tammy, but she was desperate to gain control of her feelings.

While leaning on her friend Joanna managed to position the crutches under her arms and slowly made her way to the bedroom.

Tammy was relieved in a way. She wanted to spend more time with Joanna but knew that it was better to go to her place tonight and talk tomorrow. She knew that she would not be able to get out of her mind the picture of Joanna on her crutches swinging her broken leg.

Just believe leaving, Joanna turned around and smiled at Tammy

“Thank you.” Joanna said

Tammy stood there and silently stared at Joanna. She didn't understand why she was so eager yesterday but she had decided to give her time and space.
